Basel II conference from SYSTEMIC in Athens
Systemic Risk Management's conference on "New Challenges in Risk Management: Basel II, IAS, Imminent Regulation Changes", that was held on September 23, was one of the largest of its kind in Greece and met with wide response from professionals and experts from the business community.
The conference designed to provide a comprehensive brainstorming session on the fundamentals and the importance of risk management in light of major upcoming challenges. These challenges affect a wide range of businesses from the banking sector and the brokerage firms to insurance, fund management and corporate lending, said Aristides Protopapadakis, managing director at Systemic.
Dr. Alexandros Benos, Piraeus University professor and National Bank's advisor, analyzed the main idea of Basel II that will change the way banks lend capital to businesses, while Kyriakos Attikouris of Systemic spoke for the practical changes to specialized corporate lending. Another speaker in the conference was Ernst & Young's S. Petropoulos who addressed the eventual adaptation of IAS from Greek companies and its impact on risk management. Dr. D. Gekas of EFG Insurance elaborated on the importance of risk management aiming to minimize exposure and investment risk from insurance companies.
Other speakers of the panel were J. Iliades from the Stock Exchange's Clearing House who spoke on counter party risk and Dr. D. Katsabekis chairman and CEO of Alpha Trust Asset Manager Fund who addressed issues concerning the application of risk management from an institutional investor's perspective.
