SYSTEMIC holds risk conference in Beirut
Systemic Risk Management's conference entitled "Are you Basel II Compliant? Regulatory Imperative & Business Opportunity" which was held on January 18, was one of the largest of its kind in Beirut and was met with wide response from professionals and experts from the banking community.
The conference was designed to share experiences, highlight the challenges and open a constructive dialogue among regulators and senior bankers from Greece and Lebanon, all sharing a common vision towards meeting international risk management standards, in accordance with the requirements of the second Basel Accord, said Aristides Protopapadakis, managing director at SYSTEMIC.
Dr. Alexandros Benos, Senior Credit Risk Manager at National Bank of Greece summarized the largest Greek bank's experience from Implementing Risk Rating models for the SME sector, while Nada Rizkallah, Head of Risk Management at Banque Libano-Francaise analyzed the key challenges while setting up a realistic Operational Risk framework, and Aristides Protopapadakis presented Strategic, Pricing & Return considerations while developing an Internal Capital Assessment Process. Finally, Dr. Amine Awad, Board Member at Lebanon's Banking Control Commission and Member of the Higher Banking Council, and Dr. George Christodoulakis, advisor to the Governor of the Bank of Greece, highlighted critical supervisory issues from the Greek and the Lebanese regulatory bodies' point of view.
